Name: Ignis Scientia
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: Epsiode Ignis, shortly before putting on the Ring of the Lucii
Age: 22
History: Wiki link!
Personality: Devoted. Dedicated. Versatile. Strong-willed.
Ignis enters the spotlight as an aide to Noctis, the young prince's advisor since childhood. As long as they've been together, Ignis has been wholly dedicated to his role. His loyalty to Noctis may have begun at an early age, but their growth together only strengthened his resolve to serve Noctis well. He took up cooking as a child in an attempt to recreate a dish Noctis once had, and as they grew older, attended important meetings in his stead to make sure Noctis was both able to be thoroughly informed, and as "normal" as possible. As children, Ignis would take the fall whenever they got into mischief, and he stood steadfastly by even young Noctis' side. His loyalty and dedication to both their cause and his prince (now king) are core to his personality. He even suggests they stop their pursuit of Ardyn and the Empire once he learns that Noctis' fate is to die for the cause, a rare moment of vulnerability and uncertainty that centers around his desire to protect his charge.
In order to best serve the royal family, Ignis received a top-notch education. Intelligent, level-headed, and quick-witted, Ignis is the tactician and strategist in Noctis' retinue. He's often the giver of advice, and takes the time to carefully (and sometimes excessively) explain strategies and plans to the others. He's often in the lead in situations that require more planning and subtlety than brute force. He's also prone to calling the shots in battle, and shows that he has the capacity to strategize to the point of being able to take on an entire army on his own in Altissia. Ignis does not mess around when it comes to tactics. It is, in fact, heavily implied that in the alternate ending to Episode Ignis he has majorly assisted in basically outsmarting the Gods themselves, devising a plan to rid the world of Ardyn and the darkness without costing Noctis his life. Ignis also uses a variety of weapons and techniques, and is quite adaptable. When he loses his eyesight, he turns to using magic flasks essentially as bombs, and later, as he adjusts to his blindness, opts to fight more from a distance. He doesn't let anything slow him down, once he has the opportunity to overcome it.
While he may often seem all business, Ignis has a sarcastic, dry wit, and isn't afraid to crack the occasional joke, especially at the expense of his companions. He'll gently throw them under a bus with his witticisms when appropriate, such as when he gives them a hard time about not helping with the cooking. There's constant banter with the other members of Noctis' guard, and he has a decent enough rapport with each of them. Still, they don't always see eye to eye, due to Ignis' perfectionism and rigidity when he thinks he's in the right. He'll defer to Noctis to a degree, but for much of the early parts of the game, Ignis is the driving force behind most of what the group does. He's... also literally the driver.
He's determined beyond measure. When he loses his vision due to using the Ring of the Lucii, he only accepts help for a short while from Prompto, eager to continue to be of use and to contribute to the party. He learns new techniques in combat over time to overcome his difficulties, and hardly complains. But nothing shows his fierce determination so much as when he overcomes not one, but two formidable foes in Altissia, just to keep Noctis alive. Oh, and that's after he destroys basically that entire army contingent to get to Noctis in the first place. He fights Ravus, a military general who would see Noctis dead for his unwitting role in Luna's death, then fights Ardyn, the big bad himself, with the assistance of the Ring of the Lucii. It must be noted that putting on the Ring is a terrible idea in general, because if the ancient kings reject someone, they basically impair the person in a devastating way. Not actually the most carefully reasoned thing he's ever done. He has some Noctis-shaped blinders, to be honest, and becomes almost reckless in his pursuit of protecting his friend and king.
Ignis not only puts the Ring on with full knowledge of this, but calls upon the ancient kings and bargains with them to take on the power to (temporarily) defeat Ardyn. His devotion to Noctis and determination to keep the king alive impress them enough to assist him, at the cost of his eyesight. It must be noted also that there's that aforementioned alternate timeline in which Ignis offers up his life in exchange for the power to defeat Ardyn, and later in that timeline finds a way to circumvent fate. He's not the kind of guy you want to tangle with. This does sometimes manifest as stubbornness that the others (in particular Gladio) don't always gel with. However, Ignis is usually careful to be more of a glue to the party than someone who causes discord, and is largely the voice of logic, reason, and stability within the group. Unless he's going flat-out feral in combat, in which case just... beware.
Abilities & Skills: As a combatant in Final Fantasy XV, Ignis comes with the ability to use multiple weapons. His primary arms are paired daggers, which he can imbue with elemental attributes of fire, ice, or lightning. He can use techniques to add elemental attributes to Noctis' weapons, as well as execute numerous partnered attacks specifically with Noctis. His secondary weapon is a polearm. He also uses first aid techniques in combat. His status as a member of Noctis' guard grants him access to the royal armiger, which is basically just Noctis' magical shared hammerspace where weapons and supplies are stored.
In addition to his stellar fighting skills, having been trained from a young age to be a member of the Crownsguard, he can cook better than anyone else probably ever. He has a refined palate and is good enough at cooking that he comes up with new recipes and dupes of things he's eaten before. It's wild. And tasty!
Inventory/Companions: Spelldaggers (a pair), his cell phone
Choice: Witch
Reason: I wanted to kind of shout-out his elemental affinities in canon, how he can imbue his weapons and things like that! He's also the healer of the party at times. Witch just seemed to comprehensively bring together his jack-of-all-trades approach to life and combat.
Sample: TDM, with a notably different canon point, so please forgive some of the slight discrepancies.
Slight shippy AU and an earlier canon point (latter parts NSFW).
